Some nights need a little help shutting up.

Chapter One
I Don't Have Car Insurance
A scream tore through my throat as I slammed my fist into a frozen tub of breadsticks. The bin fractured under the blow. Cute. Even the breadsticks were cracking under the pressure.
I slid the broken container behind a new one, concealing the evidence for now. Thank God there weren't cameras in the walk-in. Outside the kitchen, fingers snapped from the window seats. A forced smile spread across my face as I approached Mr. Young and his family. Same table. Same snap. Same weekly hell.
"Ready to leave, Kaira?" The voice was gentle, playful. I peeked up from my arm barricade at Oliver — the newest, most attractive bartender at The Lobster Run. His striking blue-gray eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled down at me, that half-smirk doing sinful things to my pulse.
"You don't have to perform with me."
The air between us thickened. For a second I imagined what it would be like if I just… stepped closer. Let him wrap those arms around me. Instead I pushed against his chest and stepped back. "Careful, Ollie. Keep talking like that and I might think you actually like having me around."
— then came the sound.
